Anna Kournikova

Former tennis ace Anna Kournikova has shown that she can still look good even when she is off court.

The Russian sports-star, who retired in 2003 from tennis playing, showed off her still sizzling form when she stripped off for the latest edition of Maxim magazine.

She could be seen wearing nothing but a skimpy gold bikini, as she strolled along a sandy beach, the Sun reported.

I was never a fan of Anna Kournikova. She was exactly what I thought a female athlete should NOT be: too pretty, too sexy, and too skinny. And because of this, I fell victim to the belief that Kournikova was just a mediocre player who never won a singles title.

Tennis has got a little sex secret.  And after the last few weeks it no longer looks so little or so secret.

It has nothing to do with who was hooking up with whom in the village at Wimbledon — however titillating that might be.  No, this has to do with the fact that some of the best players in the world also happen to be extremely attractive women and how The Game is going to deal with that.

Anna Kournikova doesn't care about Justin Gimelstob or what he thinks about her.

Last month, Gimelstob insulted the 28-year-old tennis diva on a radio show, but fans who were hoping to see the two face off on court were likely to be disappointed.

Three days after losing to her sister in tennis’ showcase event, Serena Williams awoke Tuesday morning at her part-time home in Paris. She flew to London, where she had a layover of a few hours, then hopped a trans-Atlantic flight in which she “slept pretty much the whole way.”

A senior official in men's tennis has been forced to issue a grovelling apology after an extraordinary sexist rant about women players.

Justin Gimelstob, a director of the Association of Tennis Professionals, described France's Tatiana Golovin and Alize Cornet as 'sexpots'.

And he said 19-year-old Czech Nicole Vaidisova, who yesterday won through to the fourth round at Wimbledon, was 'well-developed'.

So how many years now before Maria Sharapova blows semi-regal, goodbye kisses to all corners of the tennis world?

She made some interesting remarks this week as she reacted to the sudden, shocking retirement of Justine Henin, the world No 1 and a winner of seven grand slam titles. "Justine is 25 years old and she had achieved so much in her career," Sharapova said. "If I was 25 and I had won so many grand slams, I'd quit too."

Two Russian tennis stars – Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova – have never met before. Organizers of a recent tennis tournament in Miami apparently decided to bring the two famous beauties together.

Neither Sharapova nor Kournikova played in the tournament. Anna has not been playing the game that made her famous for years. Sharapova referred to an injury. However, Maria came to the after-party, apparently willing to show her new hair style. Reportedly, Sharapova did not know that Kournikova would be there too.
