World number one Jelena Jankovic of Serbia beat Russian Vera Zvonareva in the Kremlin Cup final to win her third successive WTA Tour title.
 
Jankovic won 6-2 6-4 in one hour 21 minutes to record a fourth victory in five head-to-heads with Zvonareva this season and clinch her fourth crown this year.
 
"I feel really emotional winning my third event in a row here," Jankovic said. "I feel great as the world's number one and really enjoy it.

For the third time in as many weeks Jelena Jankovic will need to add Vera Zvonareva to her list of victims if she is to triumph at a tournament, after the two Top 10 stars won their semifinal matches at the Tier I Kremlin Cup on Saturday. Recovering from a dire start, world No.1 Jankovic cruised past defending champion Elena Dementieva 06 61 60, while seventh-seeded Zvonareva scored a mild upset - on paper, at least - over No.2 seed Dinara Safina, 63 76(5).

Serbia's Jankovic -- who is seeking her season's fourth title and third in a row here -- won 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 in one hour 44 minutes to record her sixth win over Russia's Dementieva in their ninth head-to-head meeting and set up a meeting with Vera Zvonareva.

Top-ranked Jelena Jankovic rallied from a set down to advance to the final of the Kremlin Cup on Saturday with a 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over defending champion Elena Dementieva.
 
It will be the third straight final for the 23-year-old Serb, who won back-to-back titles at the China Open and the Porsche Grand Prix in Germany.

Defending champion Elena Dementieva secured a hard-fought win over Nadia Petrova on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup. The Beijing gold medalist's opponent in the last four will be Jelena Jankovic, who was tested for a set-and-a-half of her quarterfinal against Flavia Pennetta before striding through to the penultimate stage of a tournament for the eleventh time this season. The other semifinal will be an all-Russian affair, with Dinara Safina taking on Vera Zvonareva after both subdued tricky rivals.

No. 7 Marat Safin rode a powerful serve to knocked off the top-seeded Davydenko, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of this hardcourt event Friday.

A former No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, Safin fired 17 aces to outlast the two-time defending champion, denying him a fourth shot at the title of this $1 million tournament.

World number one Jelena Jankovic will face defending champion Elena Dementieva in the Kremlin Cup semi-finals after both players had to fight hard to overcome their unseeded opponents.
 
Dementieva was the first player to reach the last four, eliminating fellow Russian Nadia Petrova 6-4 4-6 7-6.
 
The third seed won the opening set and led 4-1 in both the second and third sets but allowed her compatriot to come back each time.

Squandering a one-set, 4-1 lead, Elena Dementieva created complications for herself, but fought her way out of trouble into the Kremlin Cup semifinals for the seventh time in the last eight years with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(6) victory over fellow Russian Nadia Petrova in Moscow.
 
"It was not an easy match," Dementieva said. "There were many missed chances for me today."

The run of the Russian wildcards came to an end at the Tier I Kremlin Cup on Thursday, as both Vera Dushevina and Ekaterina Makarova fell to more fancied opponents - although not without a fight. Jankovic had to have treatment on her hip after the third game of the first set, but battled to win an epic match.
 
Dushevina should have won in straight sets after coming from behind in the first and breaking early in the second.
