The Rogers Cup has received an infusion of experience. A trio of veterans — fourth-ranked Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, 13th-ranked Swiss Patty Schnyder and 37th-ranked Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn — have committed to competing in the tournament, set for July 26-August 3rd at Uniprix Stadium in Montréal.

They join top-10 players Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva, and Venus Williams, who confirmed her presence on June 18.

Seeds faced some stern tests as the bottom half of the draw was played out, but all came through with flying colours on the second day of the Championships. None will be more pleased with her win than tenth seed Daniela Hantuchova, who brushed aside two months of injury frustration with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 defeat of Italy’s Sara Errani on Court 6.

Three Top 10 players, all hailing from Russia, headline in 's-Hertogenbosch this week at the $175,000 Ordina Open, one of two Sony Ericsson WTA Tour events the week before the season's third Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon. All of them have reached the title match here before, but only one of them has taken that ultimate step into the winner's circle.

Three Top 8 seeds remained after the second round and now there are just two left after the third round, as Michaella Krajicek became the latest upset victim at the DFS Classic Thursday. Nicole Vaidisova and Alona Bondarenko nearly joined her on the sidelines.

Krajicek, the No.8 seed who won her first match of the season on Wednesday, was ousted in straight sets on Thursday by Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer, 63 64. Wickmayer now moves into her first career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour quarterfinal.
