Two of this year's form players took the court for the FORTIS Championships Luxembourg on Sunday, but of course only one would lift the trophy. And this time it was experience that prevailed over youth, as Russia's Elena Dementieva edged Danish teenager Caroline Wozniacki for her third Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title of the year, 26 64 76(4).
 

Elena Dementieva will be gunning for her third title of the year in the finals of the FORTIS Luxembourg Championships on Sunday, after dispatching eighth seed Sorana Cirstea in the semis. The Russian's opponent will be Caroline Wozniacki, who might only be 18 but will be seeking a fourth title in as many months.
 

Three of the four quarterfinals played at the FORTIS Championships Luxembourg on Friday went with the seedings, as Elena Dementieva, Caroline Wozniacki and Li Na won through to the final four. But No.3 seed Daniela Hantuchova's difficult season ended at the hands of recent Top 40 arrival Sorana Cirstea. 
 

Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva was dominant Friday in reaching the semifinals of the $225,000 Luxembourg Championships.

The top-seeded Dementieva, of Russia, needed just 58 minutes to slip past former world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo, 6-4, 6-0, converting 5-of-8 break points while only losing serve once.

Eighth-seeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania upset third-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 7-6 (2), 6-2 Friday to reach the quarterfinals of the Fortis Championships.
 
Sixth-seeded Li Na of China defeated Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to join Cirstea in Saturday's semifinals.
 
Top-seeded Elena Dementieva played former top-ranked Amelie Mauresmo later Friday.

The quarterfinal line-up was confirmed at the FORTIS Championships Luxembourg on Thursday, as Elena Dementieva, Amélie Mauresmo and Anabel Medina Garrigues scored second round wins. They join 2007 runner-up Daniela Hantuchova, Caroline Wozniacki, Li Na, Iveta Benesova and Sorana Cirstea, who won through to the last eight on Wednesday.
 

Ranked No.550 in the world, Wimbledon junior champion Laura Robson made her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour debut on Tuesday at the FORTIS Championships Luxembourg. And the 14-year-old Briton gave a good account of herself, too, taking the first set from 25-year-old world No.42 Iveta Benesova before falling 16, 62 63.
 

Two of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour's brightest young stars went to battle in the Tashkent Open final on Sunday and it was Sorana Cirstea who rose to the top on this occasion, coming back from the brink in the third set and edging Sabine Lisicki in a third set tie-break to capture her first title at the Tier IV event.
 

It was not a good day for top seed and tournament favorite Peng Shuai on Saturday, as she was bundled out of the $145,000 Tashkent Open by No.4 seed Sabine Lisicki in three tough sets. Lisicki will take on No.3 seed Sorana Cirstea for the Tier IV title on Sunday.
 

The favorites at the $145,000 Tashkent Open flourished on Friday, as all four quarterfinals went to form. The most notable match-up involved the top-seeded Peng Shuai and crafty Romanian Monica Niculescu and it was Peng who delivered in the end, in three tough sets.
