Baghdatis a dark horse for US Open

Marcos Baghdatis could be a real threat to the tennis odds favourites at the US Open as he is going into the tournament in top form.
 
The Greek-Cypriot tennis star has made it to one Grand Slam final in his career, at Australia in 2006, and also the semi-finals of Wimbledon and is currently ranked 20th in the world.
 
Those of you who want to bet on US Open matches should note that he has been seeded 16 for the US Open at Flushing Meadow, but goes into the tournament in real confident as he recently beat world number one, and top seed, Rafael Nadal in Cincinnati.
 
Baghdatis is a great player on the hard courts and could do a lot of damage throughout the draw, so it will be interesting to see whom he is drawn with in the early rounds.
 
It's been a good summer for Baghdatis on US hard courts, and the Cypriot continued his fine form as the top seed at Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven by beating Juan Ignacio Chela to reach the quarter-finals.
 
This is the last tournament before the US Open and if he can continue on the form that has seen him beat top ten players Fernando Verdasco, Tomas Berdych and Nadal this year the he will be a real dark horse for Flushing Meadows.
 
He has never advanced past the second round in the tournament however, and that will be something Baghdatis will want to put right – especially as he has never entered a US Open with such momentum behind him.
 
World number two and four-time US Open champion Roger Federer will go into the tournament as one of the favourites to life the title this year, but he has admitted that Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Nadal all have "the best shot" of winning the title, along with himself.
 
He has added that world number one Nadal "will struggle" at Flushing Meadows due to the faster courts but he remains a threat to the Swiss star winning a fifth US Open title.
