Bogdanovic would have done the job in the Davis Cup

Let the inquest begin. Great Britain have just lost to lowly Lithuania in the Davis Cup.

How we cannot produce a player good enough to beat 521st ranked Grigelis beggars belief. Didnt we hear years ago from LTA head man Roger Draper that we would soon have 5 players ranked in the top 100? Well we cant even produce 2 players who can beat someone ranked outside the worlds top 500.

Alex Bogdanovic might have lost umpteen times in the first round at Wimbledon after being given wildcards but theres a big difference between playing the likes of Tomas Berdych and the Lithuanians he would have taken on this weekend. The captain Lloyd says he has had enough chances and he was duly consigned to the scrap heap and told he wouldnt be playing Davis Cup again a year ago. But for all his woes Boggo has shown himself to be a solid top 150 player - thats his level - and that level would have been good enough this weekend.

Boggo has had a lot of money thrown at him over the years - some would say wasted - but here was a chance for him to start repaying some of that money. Ive no doubt he would have beaten Grigelis (as Ward did) and possibly even Berankis too. We were always going to win the doubles so with Bogdanovic in the team i would have backed us at a very short price to triumph. It would have offered a chance for him to redeem himself after years of failure. It was also a match Britain badly needed to win after 4 defeats on the bounce.

I expect John Lloyd to be on his way after this farce.
