Federer's motivation beginning to wane?

I guess we cant blame him. When you have won virtually everything there is to win in Tennis there must be the odd occasion when you wonder what you have to get out of bed for.

It’s a real shame though. The days when Federer and Nadal were fighting it out at the end of  these clay court masters events were so good for the game. They played so regularly in the final of Monte Carlo that it almost became an annual fixture the crowd came to expect year after year. Now after meeting 16 times between 2006 and 2009 they have gone a year without playing each other.

I don’t think the meeting is likely to come in the remaining clay TMS event in Madrid either. Rafa will likely turn up but a final place there is not as certain as it would seem to be in Rome due to the altitude. Federer played well there last year but can we really rely on him to have the desire to fight through 4 or 5 tough opponents as he did last year?

I think Federers great performance in Madrid last year was because he still had that huge desire in him to capture the French Open. Now hes got that title on the mantlepiece with every other slam I think his focus could turn to Wimbledon and trying to equal Sampras’ record 7th title.
