Feliciano López Díaz-Guerra (born on September 20, 1981) is a Spanish professional male tennis player. He was born in Toledo and now lives in the Spanish capital Madrid.
In his career he has won one singles title in Vienna in 2004, beating Guillermo Cañas in the final. He also has won one doubles title in Stockholm also in 2004, with Fernando Verdasco.
In 2005 he was the first male Spanish tennis player to reach the quarter-final of Wimbledon since 1972, when Manuel Orantes reached the semi-finals. This is López's best Grand Slam result so far. He is currently ranked 48th in ATP Rankings and is 44th in the ATP Race. His highest ranking is 20th. Feliciano Lopez is left handed and uses a one handed backhand.
Playing Style
Like many of the top spanish players Lopez is left-handed, however unlike some of his compatriots he uses a single-handed backhand. Once during a Davis Cup match when Spain played the U.S., Jimmy Arias a commentator said that, "Lopez may have the weakest backhand of any top 50 player I've ever seen, maybe with the exception of Fernando Vicente." He will usually slice his backhand instead of opting for the topspin drive. He is known for his strong serve and ability to play balls repetitively on the baseline. He is also a confident net player and has been known to adopt the serve-and-volley routine of play during matches.
