Lack of Wimbledon wildcard for James Ward is a disgrace

The decision to deny 23 year old Englishman James Ward a wildcard entry into Wimbledon is nothing short of a disgrace in my view. It means that for the first time in the 133 year history of the tournament there will be no Englishman in the main draw.

Now if no Englishman were good enough then thats fair enough. But Ward is good enough. His performances at Queens and in Eastbourne have been head and shoulders above any other British player in contention for a wildcard.

He lived with Ginepri at Queens for spells and at Eastbourne has beaten Schuettler and Lopez.

So the only male British recipient of a wildcard will be the "workhorse" Jamie Baker. Now its all very well being a hard worker but Baker showed at Queens that he does not belong at Tour level. His performance against Denis Istomin was utterly useless. And yet this Scotsman will join Andy Murray as the sole British male players in the draw.

No doubt the decision is something to do with Wards coaching partnership with Greg Rusedski who is not exactly flavour of the month at the LTA. After being passed over for the Davis Cup captaincy by a man with no professional playing experience this is another kick in the teeth for Rusedski who has clearly done a very good job with Ward in recent times.

Meanwhile i hear the bookies are already offering 500/1 on Jamie Baker winning his first match without even seeing the draw.
