Murray must become more powerful to get his name on a slam title

Although Nadal played well yesterday in beating Murray in 3 sets, Murrays recent slam results have shown that he is vulnerable to any guy playing very well. There will always be someone playing consistent hard hitting tennis in a slam and you have to be able to deal with it.

Murray needs about 10mph more on all his groundstrokes otherwise i think he may never win one. Nadal was not put under a great deal of pressure in the rallies and it was really Murrays good serving which kept him in it.

The problem is when you get to the age of 23 your technique is pretty much ingrained and it can be very difficult to change. The commentators mentioned yesterday Murrays lack of ability to hit his forehand down the line consistently. That is a key shot against Nadal because Nadal likes to hit his backhand cross court into his opponents forehand and you need to be able to hit hard up the line - which is the shortest angle on the court - to gain the edge in the rally. When Soderling and Del Potro beat Nadal this is the shot which gets them on top of the rally and it is very much Murrays weakest shot.

Murray is a student of the game and like all good players he needs to look to improve all the time. Perhaps it is time to change his fitness regime or even his coaching team? Maybe even tinker with a new racket or strings? I think if he just continues on his current path then itll be depressing for him and his fans who want to see him succeed at Wimbledon or another Grand Slam. Despite what a few pundits said afterwards i dont see that he is a better player now than he was in his loss to Roddick last year.
