Nikolay Davydenko hits form ahead of the US Open
Nikolay Davydenko seems to be coming back into form at just the right time after he cruised into the quarter-finals of the Studena Croatia Open.
The Russian has struggled to get back to his best after suffering a serious wrist injury but at his latest tournament, which he is top seed for, it seems like things are starting to click once again.
He made short work of Frenchman Stephane Robert, seeing him off 6-1, 6-2 to secure his spot in the next round and it seems he is getting back to his best.
Although he is yet to win a Grand Slam title, he did end the 2006 season as the third best player in the world and, three years later, was victorious in the ATP World Tour Finals.
If he really has recovered from his injury and is firing on all cylinders, he could prove to be a major threat in this year's US Open. His record in the tournament is reasonably impressive - he has clocked up two semi-final appearances in the past.
This, combined with his current world ranking of six, should be enough to ensure he's in the top ten seeds for the tournament. The men's US Open betting makes him a relative outsider, but he's in with a shout.
If Davydenko can keep improving over the coming weeks, he could prove to be an exceedingly tough test for the sport's biggest names in the latter stages of the tournament and the likes of Andy Murray and Robin Soderlin will have to be on their guard if they come up against him. He's perfectly capable of causing a US Open betting upset.
Of course, it all depends on that wrist and his state of mind, and if they're not right things could backfire in a spectacular manner.
