Tennis equipment: the grip
TAGS:
If your grip is too big you might strain your hand, too small and you might damage your hand, wrist, or elbow.
It is so important to find the right grip size. How do you do this?
- Hold out the hand in which you hold the racquet with the palm facing up and the fingers out straight.
- With a tape measure, measure the distance from the middle crease of your palm to the top of your ring finger (the one next to your little finger).
This distance should be the same as the distance around the handle of the grip you choose.
Juniors will measure less than four inches, the average women between 4 1/8" and 4 3/8", for men between 4 1/2" and 4 3/4".
Like shoes, if you are a half size, you are better off going with the larger size, especially if you are going to grow into it.
- If the grip material wears smooth or begins to come away from the handle make sure you get it replaced as this can be dangerous.
