She was perfect going in and perfect coming out. Serena Williams improved to 43-0 lifetime in first round matches at Grand Slams with a 60 64 victory over Portuguese teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito.
Serena strolls, Kuznetsova struggles

Serena Williams started the defence of her Wimbledon title with a straight sets win Tuesday, comfortably seeing off Portuguese teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito despite a spirited fightback.
The American world number one defeated the 17-year-old, who is known for her loud grunting, 6-0, 6-4 inside an hour and three minutes on Centre Court with an impressive display of power hitting.
"When I saw the draw, I thought, oh, last time I played her it was a really tough match, so I'm really glad to get through," the top seed said.
Easy for Serena in Wimbledon sun

Serena Williams enjoyed the gentlest of workouts as the sun beat down on Wimbledon's Centre Court, scoring a comfortable 6-0 6-4 first-round win over Portugal's Michelle Larcher de Brito.
The defending champion and top seed, seeking a fourth singles title at the All England Club, was in unforgiving form against the world number 148 and raced through the first set in just 22 minutes, sealing it with a brutal fifth ace.

It's the first Tuesday of The Championships, and following tradition the defending ladies' singles champion opens proceedings on the main stage. Mirjana Lucic, surprise semifinalist way back in 1999, is also on the main draw schedule for the first time since 2000.

Venus Williams will battle with Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay for a place in the second round while third seed Caroline Wozniacki starts against Tathiana Garbin.
Sick Baltacha abandons match

Elena Baltacha lasted only seven games of her opening match at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham but Anne Keothavong reached the second round with a battling performance.
British number one Baltacha continued her good form in 2010 by winning the ITF title in Nottingham last week but it came at a cost as she was laid low by heatstroke.
Baltacha admitted earlier in the week she was struggling to recover and she called it a day after losing the first set 6-1 to Estonia's Kaia Kanepi.
Fightback pleases Keothavong

Anne Keothavong welcomed her improvement as she battled past Pauline Parmentier in the AEGON Classic in Birmingham on Wednesday - but there was misery for British number one Elena Baltacha.
The Scot continued her good form in 2010 by winning the ITF title in Nottingham last week but it came at a cost as she was laid low by heatstroke.
Baltacha admitted earlier in the week she was struggling to recover and she called it a day after losing the first set 6-1 to Estonia's Kaia Kanepi.
Chakvetadze Sees Off Brit Challenge

The British weather held up its end of the bargain at the $220,000 AEGON Classic on Monday, allowing all 17 opening round matches on the schedule to be played.
The sole seed to fall on the grass of the Edgbaston Priory Club was No.11 Melinda Czink, who held a set point at 5-4 in the first set of her match against Marina Erakovic but let the Kiwi claw her way back for a 75 64 win.
Mirza makes winning return after wedding

India's Sania Mirza made a winning return to action after her wedding to Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik as she defeated Chan Yung-Jan 6-1, 6-4 in the first round in Birmingham on Monday.
Mirza had taken several months off from tennis to focus on her personal life before controversially marrying Malik in April.
The tense nature of relations between India and Pakistan meant political groups in her homeland protested against the 23-year-old's decision to marry Malik.
