Brisbane International 'a boost for Qld'
Organisers say the inaugural Brisbane International tournament at Tennyson will begin a new era for tennis in the state.
Leading players including Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic will compete for $1 million in prize money at the January event.
Tournament director Steve Ayles said at the official launch today that it had been 30 years since Brisbane had hosted a top tennis tournament.
"That's three decades since we've seen the leading players - men and women - compete here in Brisbane," he said.
"It's been nearly a century since Queenslanders could boast about a brand new state tennis centre.
"Today is a milestone for the sport of tennis and for Queensland."
