Lindsay Davenport is relishing being a part of the United States Fed Cup team again ahead of the World Group first-round clash with Germany.

The 31-year-old last played for the US team in 2005 and only returned to the WTA Tour in September following the birth of her first child in June.

Returning from an 11-month absence from the sport, Davenport has since won 19 games, lost two and clinched three titles.

The former world number one is hopeful of resurrecting her country's Fed Cup fortunes with the US having not won a title since they beat Spain in 2000.

"I am honoured to represent my country on the US Fed Cup team once again," Davenport said.

"My Fed Cup appearances have given me some of the best memories of my career and I look forward to La Jolla and helping our team advance to the semi-finals."

Since her Fed Cup debut with the team in 1993, Davenport has won 31 times and lost just twice, as well as having a perfect 6-0 win ratio in doubles matches.

She has led the team to three titles and five finals and has not lost a match in the competition since 1994.

United States captain Zina Garrison said: "Lindsay is such a great Fed Cup competitor and her return to tennis last season proved her love for and commitment to the game.

"To have her back on the team is great and it will be exciting to watch her compete for her country once again."

The other players in the US team for the best-of-five tie at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club will be Laura Granville, Ashley Harkleroad and Lisa Raymond.

Germany, who have not won this event since 1992, will field Tatjana Malek, Julia Goerges, Sabine Lisicki and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

The other World Group ties this weekend see defending champions Russia, including Australian Open champion and Fed Cup debutant Maria Sharapova, visit Israel while France play China and Spain travel to play last year's runners-up Italy.

Russia, who have won all three of their Fed Cup titles during the past four years, will face the United States in the World Group semi-final in April if both teams win this weekend.
