Top seed Fernando Gonzalez remains on track for a third victory at the Movistar Open after reaching the quarter-finals with a straight-sets win against Diego Hartfield on Thursday.

The Chilean, who won at Vina del Mar in 2002 and 2004 and reached the final in 2005, took only 67 minutes to dispatch the Argentine 6-3 6-4.

Following a first set in which he won all three of his break points, Gonzalez converted 15-of-18 first-serve points in the second to set up a last-eight clash with Carlos Berlocq of Argentina.

Gonzalez, who beat fellow Chilean Paul Capdeville in the first round, has won 21 of his last 24 matches on clay.

Berlocq advanced after a hard-fought 7-6 (7/3) 3-6 7-6 (7/3) win over defending champion Luis Horna of Peru.

Ventura claimed a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7/4) win over Sergio Roitman of Argentina, while Fognini downed Spaniard David Marrero 6-4 6-7 (5/7) 6-3.
