Laura Robson loses in Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo
Britain's Laura Robson has missed out on a chance to play world number two Caroline Wozniacki after losing 6-4 6-3 to Greta Arn in the Pan Pacific Open.
Robson, who claimed several notable scalps to make the main draw, battled hard before being broken late in the opening set of their first-round match.
But the 16-year-old, ranked 227th, then struggled to keep pace as the Hungarian eased through to face Wozniacki next.
World number 106 Arn previously beat Britain's Elena Baltacha in qualifying.
Russia's Maria Kirilenko secured a place in round two after a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 victory over the luxuriantly named Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain.
Martinez Sanchez was beaten in the qualifying round but came back into the tournament after Li Na of China unexpectedly withdrew at the last minute due to stomach pains.
Kirilenko led by a set and 5-3 but after Martinez Sanchez held serve the Russian was broken after committing a series of double faults.
Having lost the tie-break, Kirilenko regained her composure and was joined in the second round by Daniela Hantuchova, who comfortably saw off Angelique Kerber of Germany 6-3, 6-3, and 16th-seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia who beat Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 7-5, 7-5.
