Ljubicic, Ancic will meet in Zagreb semis
Zagreb, Croatia (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and former champion Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia and unseeded Croatian crowd favorite Mario Ancic highlighted Thursday's quarterfinal winners at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors tennis event.
Ljubicic snuck past Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 at Dom Sportova. Ljubicic was last year's Zagreb runner-up to Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis and captured the inaugural edition of this tournament in 2006.
Up next for Ljubicic in Friday's semifinals will be his countryman Ancic, who outlasted Dutchman Robin Haase 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Day 4 here.
An upset came when Ukrainian lucky-loser Sergiy Stakhovsky took out eighth- seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Stakhovsky will move on to face Simone Bolelli in the semis after the Italian disposed of Olivier Rochus of Belgium in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
The 2008 Zagreb champion will claim $59,100.
