Ljubicic stuns Roddick to claim Indian Wells title

THIRTY SOMETHING: Big-serving Ivan Ljubicic won his first Masters 1000 title with a straight sets win over Andy Roddick at India

IVAN Ljubicic stunned Andy Roddick to claim the BNP Paribas Open title with a straight sets final victory at Indian Wells.

The big-serving 20th seed becomes the second oldest winner of the event after getting the better of Roddick in two tie-breaks, taking just over two hours to complete his 7-6, 7-6 victory.

Ljubucic, who celebrated his 31st birthday on Friday and had claimed the scalps of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in previous days, had appeared in three previous Masters finals but this was the Croat's first victory and his tenth career title.

Meanwhile, Jelena Jankovic claimed the 12th win of her career with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over second seed Caroline Wozniacki in the women's final.

It's Jankovic's first title since last August and she believes it could be an omen for an upturn in her fortunes, after a slide down the rankings.

"It's been a great two weeks," she said.

"I'm so happy and so thrilled I was able to win this title. I wanted to be really aggressive but at the same time patient.

"I waited for my opportunities and I took them."
