Maria's Man?
Maria Sharapova transformed Breakfast At Wimbledon into a ratings feast for NBC when she won the Rosewater Dish in 2004.
Though the former World No. 1 has shut it down for the season, as she continues rehabbing her shoulder, Sharapova has retained a connection to the Peacock Network.
The statuesque Sharapova is dating Charlie Ebersol, son of NBC Sports Chair Dick Ebersol, according to a published report in the SportsBusiness Daily.
The reigning Australian Open champ announced on her web site last week she was pulling the plug on her season as she continued to rehab her shoulder in Phoenix.
"I've been progressing really well but its taking a lot longer than I had selfishly planned," Sharapova said on her blog posted on Maria Sharapova.com. "Therefore my team and I decided to 'shut it down' for the season. The clinic and team in Phoenix has been incredibly nice and supportive. ( Although they truly believe I have a phone and text addiction) The atmosphere is very united...most of the athletes here have similiar shoulder problems so we can all relate to each other even though most of them are 6'4 heavyweight muscular pitchers or quarterbacks (and I guess they're pretty darn good but since I never finished that Football For Dummies book, and the only football games I ever watch is when I mistakengly turn on a sports channel, I am so clueless to who they are and what exactly they do.) Every other day we do agility workouts and footwork drills so its nice to have company for a change."
The 21-year-old Sharapova sustained a moderate tear in her rotator cuff tendon in April and was unknowingly playing with the injury since then before beginning rehab in August. The injury forced the 2006 US Open champion out of the Flushing Meadows major, snapping her streak of 23 straight Grand Slam tournament appearances.
