Day 1 of the 2010 Movistar Open in Santiago featured five first-round singles matches, including two seeds and two local stars.

The first seed in action was No. 8 Potito Starace, who fell at the opening hurdle to Australian Peter Luczak, 7-6(3), 6-4.

Argentinian No. 2 seed and 2008 runner-up Juan Monaco, competing in the Movistar Open for the fifth time, defeated two-time Olympic gold medalist and Chilean hero Nicolas Massu, 6-3, 6-4.
Earlier, it was another case of Argentina triumphing over Chile as local wild card Jorge Aguilar took to Cancha Central, falling to Juan Ignacio Chela, 7-5, 6-2.

Spanish players were victorious in the other two first-round encounters, with Marcel Granollers advancing after Martin Vassallo Arguello retired with a left ankle injury. Vassallo Arguello had won the first set 6-4 but after Granollers took the second set 6-3 the Argentinian pulled out.

Alberto Martin came from behind to defeat Brazilian Marcos Daniel, 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-4.

In the lone first-round doubles match contested on Day 1, two-time former champions Jose Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto defeated No. 4 seeds Andre Sa and Horia Tecau, 6-1, 6-2.

The qualifying rounds were also completed on Monday, with Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, David Marrero, Joao Souza and Juan-Martin Aranguren gaining main draw berths.
