Five Spaniards, led by five-time reigning champ Rafael Nadal, No. 6 seed Fernando Verdasco and two-time winner Juan Carlos Ferrero, along with World No. 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia lead the quarter-final line-up at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on Friday.

This is the first time in the Open Era (since 1968) in Monte-Carlo five Spaniards are in the last eight. It’s also the first time five Spanish players are in the quarters of an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament (since 1990). The last time five Spaniards reached the quarters on the ATP World Tour was in Valencia two years ago.
In the first match, No. 11 seed David Ferrer takes a 4-3 lead against top German Philipp Kohlschreiber. In the second match, seven of the past eight Monte-Carlo titles (except ’04) have been won by Ferrero and Nadal, who is 6-2 lifetime against his countryman. They are both former World No. 1s and Roland Garros champions. In the third match, Djokovic, who reached the final last year, is 2-1 against former World No. 3 David Nalbandian of Argentina. In the last singles match, Verdasco takes a 3-0 record against countryman Albert Montanes. Nadal, Djokovic and Ferrer have yet to lose a set this week.
