Monte-Carlo Thursday Preview
There are six Spaniards in the third round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, led by No. 2 seed and reigning five-time champion Rafael Nadal. Four of the other Spaniards are seeded – No. 6 Fernando Verdasco, No. 9 and 2002-03 champion Juan Carlos Ferrero, No. 11 David Ferrer and No. 12 Tommy Robredo. The other Spaniard is unseeded Albert Montanes.
In the first match on Court Central, No. 10 seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic brings a 6-3 career mark against Verdasco. In the second match on, German left-hander Michael Berrer looks to break Nadal’s 28-match winning streak in Monte-Carlo. In the third match, No. 5 seed and top Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga takes a 2-0 record against Ferrero. In the final singles match, top seed and ’09 finalist Novak Djokovic brings a 7-2 mark against No. 13 seed Stanislas Wawrinka in a rematch of last year’s semi-final won by the Serb.
