Murray breezes past Lacko
If, as the New York Times' Michael Kimmelman would have it, the themes of a good tennis match develop like the movements of a symphony, the music Andy Murray and Lukas Lacko made Wednesday was more like bad techno: fast, brutish and predictable, played entirely to the beat of Murray's serve.
The No. 4 seed barreled through his 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 first-round match in under two hours, glowering all the while but controlling most service games with a one- or two-point cushion off Lacko's errors and his own service winners.
Murray aced Lacko twice to start the match and broke him immediately. Even when the Slovak held, it was shakily, on deuce games, and Murray took the first set with another pair of aces.
With the Scotsman serving early in the second, Lacko drew cheers when he tracked down a lob and shipped the ball back into play. He won that point and the game, but it amounted to little more than background noise: he was already down a break and never threatened again.
Murray will meet 25-year-old Dustin Brown of Jamaica in the second round.
Match Facts
- Murray hit 37 winners
- Murray won 21 of 26 net points
