• Verdasco must reach the final to have a chance to qualify
• Melzer must win the title and have Roddick lose in the 3rd Rd. to have a chance

First up on Court Central is No. 8 seed Andy Roddick against unseeded Ernests Gulbis. Roddick has played well at this event, reaching the semi-finals in 2003 and 2005, and he improved to 12-6 here with a quick morning win against Jarkko Nieminen on Wednesday. He is 2-0 lifetime against Gulbis, with both wins coming on hard courts. Gulbis has snapped out of a four-match losing streak with a pair of wins over opponents who retired with injuries.

Second up is No. 6 seed Fernando Verdasco against No. 12 Gael Monfils. The Spaniard is looking to reach the quarter-finals for the first time, while Monfils made it all the way to the final in front of his home crowd last year. Monfils won the pair's only previous meeting, on clay in Monte Carlo in 2008. But there is a lot on the line for Verdasco. He needs to win to keep his hopes of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals alive.

Third up is No. 2 seed and defending champ Novak Djokovic against unseeded Michael Llodra, who is appearing in the round of 16 here for the first time. This could also be an early preview of next month's Davis Cup final in Belgrade. Djokovic won the previous meeting in the third round of Miami in March 2007.

Fourth up is a battle between former tournament winners No. 5 seed Tomas Berdych and No. 10 Nikolay Davydenko. Berdych won the title in 2005 and Davydenko captured the title the following year. The Russian owns a commanding 8-1 head-to-head advantage but Berdych won the last match at Wimbledon last year.

In the evening session, top seed and World No. 2 Roger Federer takes a 9-2 career lead against unseeded Radek Stepanek, who reached his first career ATP World Tour final here in 2004. Federer hasn't lost a set to Stepanek (11-0) since his last loss to the Czech on the clay courts of Rome in May 2008. Last week Federer beat Stepanek 63 62 in the quarter-finals of Basel en route to the title. Federer comes in with a season-high 10-match winning streak and he's looking to reach the quarter-finals in Bercy for the fourth time (2002-03, '08).

In the final match, No. 3 seed Andy Murray brings a 4-1 advantage against No. 13 seed Marin Cilic. Cilic's win came in the fourth round of last year's US Open but Murray avenged the loss with a four-set win in the semi-finals at the Australian Open in January. Both players have been to the quarters here before (Murray in 2007-08 and Cilic last year).

On Court 1, No. 7 seed David Ferrer takes a 3-1 head-to-head lead against No. 11 seed Jurgen Melzer. This is an important day for Melzer, who needs to win the title (and have Roddick lose his 3rd Rd. match) to keep his hopes alive for qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Ferrer is No. 7 in the points standings. In the other match, No. 4 seed Robin Soderling squares off against Swiss No. 2 Stanislas Wawrinka, who has won two of their previous three meetings, including a 63 62 victory on the clay of Rome earlier this year.
