Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza falls to her lowest ranking in 2 years, falls to 99 in the WTA rankings. Sania is close to being knocked out of the top 100 with her ranking falling to 99 in the latest WTA rankings. This season's fall to 99 comes as a shock and testimony of the Hyderabadi's inconsistency over the period of time.
Sania's absence from the game because of injury has not helped matters as she has missed both the French Open and the US Open. Sania had withdrawn from the first round of the Olympics after suffering a wrist injury.
Sania Mirza's performance has been quite erratic over the past one and half years. She reached a career high ranking of 27 in August 2007 but couldn't sustain it for long. She fell out of the top 30 in April 2008 falling to number 31. The slip in rankings got bad subsequently as she fell 23 places just before the Olympics to 54th.
After her loss in the first round she fell 11 places to 65 in the WTA rankings. She fell to number 70 on August 25 this year and fell 21 places to 91 couple of months ago in September to number 91 and finally in the latest rankings released today she has fallen to 99. And just couple of months ago Tennis Legend Jimmy Connors had criticised Sania Mirza, saying she was not concentrating on her game and was getting distracted.
Over the years Sania Mirza's professional career has been dogged by injuires, and has been a prime reason for her fall in rankings. This time round, a wrist injury that has kept her out of action for most of 2008. This is the reason for her dismal performance at the Beijing Olympics after which she had to miss the US Open as well.
The year also also saw her sufffer a hamstring injury which kept her out of the French Open. In 2007 a stomach and knee injury held her back from surging ahead in the rankings. And in 2005 and 2006, her ankle gave her much trouble just as she was rocking the tennis world with her powerful forehand drives.
