Serbia’s spirited performance wins Davis Cup

The atmosphere in the Belgrade Arena on the third day of proceedings at the big Davis Cup Final was at fever pitch as 16,000 people gave a wholehearted support for Serbia’s national men’s tennis team in their battle against France. When Viktor Troicki converted his first match point against Llodra, all hell broke loose at the Arena. The celebration lasted for half an hour, which was followed by a huge display of fireworks, as the players made a lap of honour holding the prestigious trophy.
One of people who were not in the cram-packed arena but were watching it on TV was Andy Murray, the world’s player number four, who was among the first ones to praise the success achieved by Novak Djokovic the co.
 
 
- “Fantastic achievement from Serbia. They have neither the means nor conditions, with poor infrastructure, but these are people of big hearts. They have a work ethic and a tremendous will to win. Congratulations, Serbia!,” read Murray’s message on the social network Twitter.
 
All the while France were in shock as respectable daily newspaper L’Equipe put a caption “It was only a dream” above the photograph of Michael Llodra in tears.
- “It was only a dream. Reality is a nightmare. On the third day of the Davis Cup Final, Gael Monfils and Michael Llodra just had no weapon to confront Serbia.
 
Gael’s performance was decent, but Novak was too strong. Llodra disappointed against Troicki – he was too slow, his legs were heavy, while Viktor was composed and focused with his backhand a massive asset on the day. Serbia were stronger and that is no illusion,” read an article in L’Equipe.
 
BBC called Viktor Troicki “a nation’s hero” and a true tennis star.

“Serbia are the champions of the world. Our lads fought so hard that I’m speechless. This is the biggest professional pleasure one could have. I have never shaved my head and I am really pleased I have a hairstyle like this,” said Serbian
 
Serbia’s finest tennis player on the women’s tour, Jelena Jankovic, was among the first ones to congratulate her compatriots on the unprecedented success in the history of Serbian tennis.
 
“This is a phenomenal achievement and we are all proud of the players. They deserve all the praise, they fought until the end and showed they were the greatest. Their win is spotless and no one can take anything away from it. Bravo, boys! All credit to you,” read a message from Jelena Jankovic. Andy Murray.
