Beatrice Capra's dream run at the 2010 US Open has come to an end as the 18-year-old American, playing in her first Grand Slam tournament, fell in the third round to 2006 champion Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-0.

The conditions at Arthur Ashe Stadium were tough for both players, with a strong wind whipping around towels, trash and even Capra's visor off of her head. Capra also repeatedly needed re-toss the ball on her serves.

Sharapova was in control from the beginning of the match, and her experience showed as she dictated points, saving break point chances when she needed to and converting on big points.

"This is as tough conditions as it can get," Sharapova said on-court of the wind. "Today I just wanted to make sure I went out there and concentrated and was consistent."

The three-time Grand Slam tournament champion gave Capra, ranked No. 371 in the world, a few openings hitting five double faults, but the young American was unable to take advantage, going 0-for-5 in break point opportunities, and played very defensively to Sharapova's aggressive groundstrokes.

For the match, Sharapova hit 17 winners and also 17 unforced errors with an 80% winning percentage on her first serves. In comparison, Capra hit just three winners to 19 unforced errors, and Sharapova feasted on Capra's slower first and second serves.

On her way to the third round, Capra had upset No. 18 seed Aravane Rezai of France in the second round in three sets, and Karolina Sprem in the opening round.

Sharapova next faces No. 1 seed and 2009 Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round.

"It will be tough," Sharapova said of facing Wozniacki. "I am looking forward to it."
