JANUARY
Eighteen months after she retired as the reigning world No.1, Justine Henin returns to the tour at the Brisbane International - only to be edged by fellow comeback queen Kim Clijsters in a thrilling final.
Li Na and Zheng Jie reach the semis of the Australian Open, the first time two Chinese players have made the last four at the same Grand Slam event. Li subsequently become the first player from China to crack the Top 10.
