Wozniacki, Medina Through; Mirza Beaten in Stockholm
It's down to the final eight after Day 4 of the Nordea Nordic Light Open, which saw the loss of Indian sensation Sania Mirza and local wildcard Johanna Larsson.
Czech left-hander Iveta Benesova stormed into the quarterfinals on Thursday after beating No.6 seed Mirza. It was three times a charm for Benesova as she beat Mirza for the third consecutive time they've met. The 25-year-old Czech recently reached the quarterfinals at Bad Gastein; she now faces last year's Stockholm runner-up Vera Dushevina, who is 3-0 lifetime against the Czech.
Caroline Woznicki beat Finnish player Emma Laine, 61 60. The No.4-seeded Dane will face Portoroz runner-up and No.5 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues, who beat qualifier Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 61, 60. Wozniacki has won her only meeting with the Spaniard.
France's Camille Pin beat Swedish hopeful Johanna Larsson 63 62 and will face No.1 seed and defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska for a semifinal berth. It will be the first time 26-year-old Pin faces world No.10 Radwanska.
Spanish veteran Virginia Ruano Pascual has also made it through to the final eight after beating Italian qualifier Maria Elena Camerin, 63 62. In the quarterfinals she'll face No.3 seed Katarina Srebotnik who will be looking to redeem herself after an early loss in her home country last week in Portoroz.
Petra Cetkovska and Lucie Safarova were the first doubles team to move into the semifinals after a swift 64 62 defeat of Marina Erakovic and Julia Goerges.
Portoroz champions and No.1 seeds Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual are also through to the semis after beating Sophie Lefèvre and Jasmin Woehr, 64 75.
The final match of the day saw Pin and Yanina Wickmayer beat Maria Elena Camerin and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 75 36 1311 and will face Medina and Ruano in the semifinals.
