For the second straight day one of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour's biggest names was ousted from the 2008 US Open, as Svetlana Kuznetsova fell in the third round of the year's final Grand Slam. Bartoli battles breeze to win

A spirited Marion Bartoli, runner-up to Venus Williams at The Championships last year, overcame a second set slump to defeat Tatiana Perebiynis in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

In the first set, the 11th seeded Frenchwoman’s biggest challenge was posed by the conditions, as both players struggled to find rhythm on breezy Court 11. Indeed, across the match just 50 per cent of her first serves would hit the mark.

Bondarenko advances to Strasbourg quarterfinals

Second-seeded Alona Bondarenko defeated Edina Gallovits 6-4, 6-4 Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg International.
 
Bondarenko, who broke her Romanian opponent's serve five times, plays Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky next.
 
Bacsinszky outlasted No. 8 Yan Zi of China 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
