So how many years now before Maria Sharapova blows semi-regal, goodbye kisses to all corners of the tennis world?
 
 
She made some interesting remarks this week as she reacted to the sudden, shocking retirement of Justine Henin, the world No 1 and a winner of seven grand slam titles. "Justine is 25 years old and she had achieved so much in her career," Sharapova said. "If I was 25 and I had won so many grand slams, I'd quit too."

OK, yeah, the tennis should be exciting. But in Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic, we have stars who very consciously market themselves as starlets. They want to be noticed for their looks, and the casual fan (read: slobbering male) is happy to oblige.
